The Flowing Lines of Cobiness
Ernest Cobiness Sr.
Ernest Cobiness Sr. is a distinguished artist and an elected representative of the Buffalo Point Anishinaabe First Nation. His work is profoundly influenced by the guidance of his father, Eddy Cobiness, who is renowned as the founder of the Canadian “Native Group of Seven.” His work fuses traditional Woodland art with contemporary themes, exploring Anishinaabe spirituality and culture through bold line work and symbolism.
Following his father’s passing, Ernest’s mother encouraged him to carry on Eddy’s artistic legacy, inspiring him to develop the distinctive style he now creates. It took a few years of reflection for him to find his artistic style and establish the next generation of the Flowing Art of Cobiness.
Dedicated to cultural preservation, he mentors emerging Indigenous artists and actively participates in community ceremonies. As a father and grandfather, Ernest remains committed to passing down his Anishinaabe heritage through his art
Ernest specializes in creating custom pieces, including paintings, hand-crafted drums, rattles, and jewelry.
